Fall Fitness Essential for 2017

Between the changing of the leaves, the pumpkin spicing of everything, the Halloween parties and the overeating at Thanksgiving, we seem to love the fall most of all. And for us athletes, the best thing about the season to us is not having to work out in the summer heat anymore! However, just like the transition from summer to fall means an update to our everyday wardrobe, the same goes for items we need to continue our fitness regimens during the cooler months.

Here’s our short list of fall fitness essentials:

Layers

If you’re going to be exercising outdoors during fall, you’ll need layers. This way you can remove a layer if you become overheated. Yoga pants, sweat-wicking shirts, fleece jackets, socks, gloves and hats/earmuffs are all crucial to this season’s fitness regimen. Plus, all of these items can be used in the winter.

Reflective Gear

With shorter days, darkness approaches more quickly. If you’re going to be working out in the dark, be sure you are wearing reflective gear for safety, whether on your shoes or your fleece. You need to be easily seen by approaching cars, cyclists and runners. Safety first, Wahooligans!

Water Bottle

In cooler weather, we feel less thirsty, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t need to water. Don’t allow yourself to become dehydrated. Be sure you are taking in the necessary amount of water whether you feel thirsty or not. A great way to stay hydrated is to drink 15-20 ounces of water a couple of hours prior to your workout. Take in another eight ounces right before and sip consistently during your workout. A new water bottle will help with this fall fitness essential.

The seasons aren’t the only things in transition. Our bodies have to transition from working out in the hot temperatures of summer to cooler ones of fall and winter.
